Aims
Initiated in 2002 the FMS Programme is intended for those Yoga students or teachers who, having completed
an Introductory Mantra and Yoga Chanting study course, wish to explore further the primary principles and teachings on Mantra and Yoga Chanting and how they can inspire and guide our personal Mantra and Yoga Chanting practice and study, as well as our teaching work.
Each Foundation weekend offers in-depth practice of Mantra and Yoga Chanting which builds on the theory and practice principles taught within the Introductory Workshops. It is an opportunity for a Yoga student or teacher from any Yoga background or style to experience an in-depth training in the Art of Mantra and Yoga Chanting through:
- Gaining confidence in finding your chanting voice and developing your breathing through Sound, Mantra and Yoga Chanting.
- An appreciation and familiarity with the principles which inspire Sound, Mantra and Yoga Chant practice.
- Learning how to read and sound Mantra in Romanised Saṃskṛta.
- Learning how to link and join Romanised Saṃskṛta to enhance our use and understanding of Chanting.
- Discovering therapeutic support and meditation.
- Learning skills for teaching Sound and Chanting in general Group Yoga Classes

Foundation Workshop Training Overview
The Foundation Workshop Training Course aims to offer an in-depth training in learning the Art of Sound, Mantra and Yoga Chanting through:
- Appreciating the core principles which inspire the use of Sound, Mantra and Yoga Chanting practices.
- Application of Sound and Mantra respecting differences in background, vocal ability and musical experience.
- Learning techniques to help students find their chanting voice and develop their breathing with and for Sound and Mantra.
- Being able to choose appropriate postures according to the energy and application of the Sound or Mantra.
- Integrating Sound, Mantra and Chanting into existing asana, pranayama and meditational practices.
- Experiencing how teaching Sound and Mantra can be a tool to lead the student towards silence as a natural outcome.
- Exploring the possibilities for the use of Sound and Mantra as a therapeutic tool for improving health and well being.
- Discovering how chanting can be used as a tool for learning Yoga teachings on psychology or spirituality.
- Understanding the value of teaching Mantra in Sanskrit.
FMS Course Topics total over 40 hours of tuition through working experientially with Mantra and Yoga chanting from the following Veda and Yoga sources:
- Vedic and Yoga Sūtra Opening Prayers
- Vedic and Yoga Sūtra Closing Prayers

April to November 2013 Foundation Mantra and Yoga Chanting Study Course Weekend Dates:
- April 20/21st 2013
- June 29/30th 2013
- September 14/15th 2013
- November 16/17th 2013
Fees & Booking
The 2013 workshops are £145 per weekend.
A Registration fee of £100 is required.
This will not be refundable but will be offset against the final weekend’s fee.
All the Mantra Study Workshops must be paid for even if the student is unable to attend.
Missed weekends can be taken on future courses free of charge. The weekend fees are payable at each weekend and the cost includes a
further Chanting manual, tuition, a delicious vegetarian lunch each day
and all refreshments.
All Foundation Mantra Study Course deposits to be made payable to Paul Harvey and sent to
Yoganjali, Princes Place, Bristol BS7 8NP. Confirmation will be sent. All deposits are non-returnable. In the case of
courses not running an acceptable alternative or a full refund will be offered.
