Initiated for 2013 the FHS Programme is intended for those Yoga students who, having completed
an Introductory Haṭha Study course, wish to explore the primary principles and teachings from the Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā and how they inspire and guide our personal Yoga practice and study, as well as our Yoga teaching.

Aims

To present a view of the core Haṭha concepts in Yoga through which students can support and develop their own practice and deepen their appreciation of the possibilities for why a view such as Haṭha can support our lives. Its role is not to train students as Yoga teachers.

Framework

The Foundation Haṭha Study Programme reflect the teachings of TKV Desikachar and his father and teacher T Krishnamacharya as taught to Paul Harvey over 25 years through:

  • Guidance in integrating the primary Haṭha concepts to support your everyday life.
  • Understanding the principles which inspire and shape Haṭha Yoga.
  • An overview of important Haṭha teachings around body and mind.
  • Appreciating how your body can work more effectively utilizing Haṭha techniques.
  • Deepening our work with and importance of Prāṇa-Apāna, Mūla-Mala, Candra-Avidyā, Sūrya-Agni and Ṣat Cakra in Yoga practice.
  • The value of an-depth study of the four chapters of the Haṭha Yoga Pradīpikā.

Professional

Even though the Haṭha teachings and techniques developed in the Foundation Course can enhance any Yoga Teachers professional skills there is no requirement to teach or to intend to teach Yoga. This is not the role of the course.

In fact not everybody wants to or actually needs to become a Yoga teacher to further their practice and study. Here the priorities are towards personal development and thus questions relating to our personal practice and study are the priorities. The Foundation Course reflects this viewpoint.

The aim is that we are all here in this course as students and it offers an opportunity for all teachers to step back from their teaching role and re-enhance their personal study and practice path.

“We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us is valuable,
worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch.
Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder,
spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit....”
