The Art of Sound or Nada Yoga, Mantra and Yoga Chanting are oral learning and meditative practices from the rich tradition of Indian spiritual and psychological teachings and practice.

As well as being a key way to learn teachings on Yoga through absorption, they integrate body, voice, mind and emotions in the quest for unity with the source from which sound originates.

Chanting is called adhyayanam and is the art of listening and learning to recite with attention and care and a deep involvement of head, heart and body in the outcome.

The benefits include learning to read the Yoga teachings from the inside rather than the outside and refining the ability to learn to listen, thus enhancing attention, memory, patience plus confidence around the use of our voice.

Arising out of Mantra and Yoga Chanting is the possibility of a deeper reflection on the teaching being chanted, inner silence, both during the practice itself because of the degree of involvement required, and in the stillness afterwards.

In a similar way to other Yoga practices regular Mantra and Yoga chant practice can lead the student to:

  • Experience more the intimate relationship between our body, breath, voice, mind and heart.
  • Develop a state of attention that allows space for reflection and self-inquiry.
  • Access a therpeutic support for our sense of well being and mental focus.
