Aims:
To present a view of Yoga to help develop our practice and deepen our relationship with Yoga. This means respecting the vital source from which these teachings originated and their place in our age and culture.
Framework:
The Further Studies Programme reflects the teachings of TKV Desikachar and his father and teacher T Krishnamacharya as taught to Paul Harvey through personal lessons over 20 years as:
- Personal practice for oneself and others
- Teaching from T Krishnamacharya to TKV Desikachar
- Philosophy through Texts and Teachers
- Psychology comparable to Western models
- Complementary Therapy for health and illness
Duration:
The total of around 230 contact and home study hours comprises:
- 160 group contact hours
- 70 home study support project hours
- the Programme will run over two years with yearly cycles of 115 hours through:
- 80 hours in 5 three day workshops.
- 35 hours (approx) over 5 home study support projects
Teacher:
The Programme workshops will be taught by Paul. Specialist teachers may support the Programme in specific areas if required.
Assessment:
There will be informal support assessment with emphasis on the overall quality of the individual student's development and involvement in the outcome of the course.
The focus of the Course will be to offer a Further Studies environment rather than a Post-Graduate Training Programme. Therefore there will be no formal workshop assessments or planning sessions.
Instead the Further Studies Programme will focus on how a small group of interested students can study together sharing a formal committment to the course structure and group support.
Projects:
Continuing home study of both a written and practical nature along with personal practice projects are required as part of the Course.
The home study will include two personal projects each year to be completed by weekend 5, for summer reading and September return.
Programme Fees:
The total cost for the 2009/2011 course will be £1900.
- This breaks down into yearly cycles of £950 comprising:
- £190 each for five three day workshops in Bristol including refreshments, lunch Saturday and Sunday and no accommodation from 2.30pm Fri afternoon to around 2.00pm Sun afternoon. This fee includes Course Manual, Course Preparation time and 3 hours each student annually for out of course reading and feedback time for homestudy projects.
A Programme Registration Deposit of £350 is required. This will not be refundable but will be offset against the final two weekends fee. All Programme fees must be paid for whether or not the student is able to attend. Fees will be due at the time of tuition.
Certificate:
Students successfully completing the Further Studies Programme will receive a Further Studies Certificate of attendence. The FSP has been submitted for PG Accrediatation status through the BWY, the National Governing Body for Yoga within the UK.
Group:
Each group will have a maximum of 16 students.
Prerequisites:
The Further Studies Programme is open for application to all Teachers on the current BWY Teachers Register.
There is a preferred requirement to be already teaching group classes or individual lessons before or during the Programme. Although not essential it would help to be able to offer case studies to provide material to share as part of the practical workshops.
A committment to maintaining a consistant home practice will be helpful
as we seek to both experiment with and refine different aspects of our personal practice.
