The aim of the dharmadownloads.info is to offer an opensource facility for anybody within the global Yoga community to freely and easily access resources to support their study and practice, either as a complement to their existing work with a teacher or accepting that this is not always possible as another route meanwhile.
My
teacher, TKV Desikachar, once described dharma as having three aspects:
- Dharma is that which supports you
- Dharma is that which stops you from falling
- Dharma is that which enables you to pick your self up after falling
It
is
with this bhavana or feeling for dharma within the global Yoga community that these tools are offered in the spirit of community rather than competition. As my teacher expressed it in a talk given at the Omega institute in May 2002 around the theme "The Ocean of Yoga - From the Parts to the Whole" :
"The current world of Yoga seems to be made up of many small parts,
each one competing with and often confusing the other.
This is not consistent with the spirit of yoga,
whose very meaning is ‘to unite‘“.
This statement offers an important reminder that Yoga means to link. The aim of dharmadownloads reflects hopefully this view of Yoga as unity and how can we as a global Yoga Community link in both in Spirit and Action, within and without our immediate circles.
