Exploring Yoga Sūtra Chanting

The Art of Yoga Sūtra Chanting Modular Courses are limited to a maximum of five students to allow for a personalised approach and in-depth transmission between teacher and student. They are a series of 4 day course modulescomprising either a single 4 day meeting or two 2 day meetings over 3 months.

Based in the Cotswolds, it is a 4 day course intended for those students, having completed 
a Sounding and Chanting Module One Workshop, wish to explore, through a series of 4 day courses, the primary principles and teachings from T Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar teachings on Yoga Sūtra Chanting and how it can inspire and guide our personal Chanting Sādhana or where relevant, our professional work in these areas for others.

They are presented with the aim of reflecting the fundamentals of Śrī T Krishnamacharya’s teaching, namely, transmission occurs through the direct experience of the teacher with the students personal practice & study Sādhana.

It comprises two weekend workshops over three months. Each meeting offers in-depth practice of Yoga Sūtra Chanting which builds on the theory and practice principles taught within the Sounding and Chanting Module One Workshop.

The Art of Yoga Sūtra Chanting Module Two Sacred Sādhana Course is designed for interested students from any walk of life, or Yoga teachers and trainee teachers from any Yoga background, wanting an in-depth training to learn to practice the Art of Yoga Sūtra Chanting for developing a Sacred Sādhana.

All are welcome irrespective of any background though completion of an Sounding and Chanting Module One Workshop is necessary.

The Art of Yoga Sūtra Chanting – Modules Two to Three Framework

The Art of Yoga Sūtra Chanting Modular Courses aim to offer further in-depth experiential training in learning the Yoga Sūtra Chanting through:

  • An appreciation
    – and familiarity with the principles which inspire Yoga Sūtra Chanting practice.
  • Practicing how
    – to read and sound Yoga Sūtra Chanting in Romanised Saṃskṛta.
  • Practicing how
    – to link and join Romanised Saṃskṛta to enhance our use and understanding of Yoga Sūtra Chanting.
  • Appreciating
    – Yoga Sūtra Chanting as therapeutic support and meditation.
  • Practicing skills
    – for teaching Yoga Sūtra Chanting in specialised Chanting applications.
  • Cultivating
    – the Art of Yoga Sūtra Chanting as a Sacred Sādhana.
  • Re-inforcing
    – the core principles which inspire the use of Yoga Sūtra Chanting practices.
  • Integrating
    – Yoga Sūtra Chanting into existing asana, pranayama and meditational practices.
  • Experiencing
    – how  Yoga Sūtra Chanting can be a tool to lead the student towards reflection as a natural outcome.
  • Exploring
    – the possibilities for the use of Yoga Sūtra Chanting as a therapeutic tool for improving health and well being.
  • Discovering
    – how chanting can be used as a tool for learning Yoga Sūtra teachings on psychology and spirituality.

The Art of Yoga Sūtra Chanting – Module Two and Three Courses aim to offer in-depth experiential training in Yoga Sūtra Chanting through intensive Chanting practice days or weekends which build on the theory study and practice techniques learnt within the Sounding and Chanting Module One Workshop.

Each meeting will be focused around Yoga Sūtra Chanting Practice with five sessions over each day offering around four-five hours Chanting experience to re-inforce the students personal understanding and skills for self practice.

The Art of Yoga Sūtra Chanting – Module Two to Three Topics

They each total over 20 hours of tuition through working experientially with Yoga Sūtra Chanting and associated opening and closing Dhyānam Śloka:

The Module Two Yoga Sūtra Chanting Course Practice Focus is on:

  • Yoga Sūtra Opening Prayers
    – Specialisation in Laghu or light version
    – Introduction to Mahā or long version
  • Yoga Sūtra Chapters One and Two
    – Specialisation in long form
  • Yoga Sūtra Chapters One and Two
    – Introduction to short form
  • Yoga Sūtra Closing Prayers
    – Specialisation in Laghu or light version
    – Introduction to Mahā or long version

The Module Three Yoga Sūtra Chanting Course Practice Focus is on:

  • Yoga Sūtra Opening Prayers
    – Specialisation in Mahā or long version
  • Yoga Sūtra Chapters One and Two
    – Review of long form
  • Yoga Sūtra Chapters Three and Four
    – Specialisation in long form
  • Yoga Sūtra Chapters Three and Four
    – Introduction to short form
  • Yoga Sūtra Closing Prayers
    – Specialisation in Mahā or long version

The Art of Yoga Sūtra Chanting – Module Two to Three Prerequisites

Prospective students will have successfully completed Sounding and Chanting Module One Workshop.

The Art of Yoga Sūtra Chanting – Modules Two to Three Group Size and Dates

The Yoga Sūtra Chanting Modular Courses is limited to a maximum of five students to allow for a personalised approach and in-depth transmission between teacher and student.

There will be either a single 4 day or 2 two day meetings spaced over three months. This is also a specialised learning intensive, so rather than fixing diary dates in advance each Course will be arranged once I have received around four applications from interested students.

The Art of Yoga Sūtra Chanting – Modules Two to Three Fees & Booking

The days are on Saturday from 10.30-6.45 and Sunday from 9.00-2.00.

The 2018 Course fee is based on a maximum of five students and will be £460 for each 4 day module.
The 2019 Course fee is based on a maximum of five students and will be £480 for each 4 day module.

For 2018 a deposit of £230 is required and the balance of £230 payable at the first meeting.
For 2019 a deposit of £240 is required and the balance of £240 payable at the first meeting.

The deposit will not be refundable but will be offset against the total fee. 
All the Personal Sādhana Modular Course Fees must be paid for even if the student is unable to attend.


The fees are payable at each meeting and the cost includes a 
further Course manual, tuition, vegetarian lunch each day, all refreshments plus supper on the overnight evenings.

All the Art of Personal Sādhana Modular Course deposits can be paid by Postal cheque or Bank draft. Please contact Paul to indicate your preference. Confirmation of your payment and place will be sent. All Fees are non-returnable and non-transferable. In the case of Courses not running an acceptable alternative or a full refund will be offered.

All the weekends are based in the Cotswolds with a country setting and retreat atmosphere.

Do note that the fees will include lunch and, if staying overnight, evening supper to help with costs. Thus, if staying there is no need to incur any further costs until you leave.
