For those interested in professional Yoga Teaching and Yoga Therapeutic Healthcare training after having completed the prerequisite 250 contact hours core level modular training, the Practitioner Programme involves 200 contact hours in the art of applying Yoga 121 within all situations.

Together they facilitate an in-depth transmission between the teacher and the student in terms of adding professional practitioner skills in the Art of viniyoga of Yoga 121 for Individuals to the Core Level Personal Studies Modules, all within an exclusive learning environment.

Based in the Cotswolds, the Practitioner Training Programme is solely concerned with training a student in the Art of teaching Yoga Practice and Study to individual students.

This means that the student will have already completed the prerequisite training in the relevant areas of Yoga practice and study through the Art of Personal Studies Programme and therefore only needs to add individual teaching skills to this study.

The combined Programme is presented with the aim of reflecting the fundamentals of Śrī T Krishnamacharya’s teaching, namely, transmission occurs through the direct experience of the teacher with the students personal practice and study Sādhana.

The viniyoga of Yoga 121 – Practitioner Programme Prerequisites

Prior completion of a minimum of 250 contact hours through the Art of Personal Studies Modules within two primary areas of Yoga Practice Techniques & Theory Study and Associated Yoga & Lifestyle Texts Study.

The 250 prerequisite Art of Personal Studies hours break down into 150 hours of Yoga Practice Techniques and Theory Study and 100 hours of associated Yoga Texts Study.

The viniyoga of Yoga 121 – Practitioner Programme Topics and Hours

The Art of Professional Studies Modules explore the teaching of Yoga in the fields of Practice, Theory, Psychology and Philosophy to Individuals. It focuses on the areas that add professional expertise for those wishing to add Yoga Teaching and Therapeutic Healthcare skills to their personal relationship with Yoga.

The Structure for the Practitioner Training involves 200 hours of live contact comprising:

  • 125 live contact hours through 12 two day or 6 four day Workshops over 18 months with Paul or, where necessary, Specialist Teachers.
  • 50 hours personal lessons, including lessons during completion of the Personal Studies Modules.
  • 25 hours individual lessons as supervision for your individual teaching with students or clients.

This is a Practitioner Training Programme in the Art of Professional application of Yoga teaching and therapeutic healthcare theory for working with individual students or clients in the fields of:

Focused on one to one Yoga for personal exploration, lifestyle support or healthcare recovery programmes, it will offer a unique specialisation in Yoga as taught by T Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar throughout their teaching lives.

This full Practitioner Programme totalling over 450 live contact study combined with home study hours more than meets the European Minimum Standard of 500 hours training over 4 years.

It also far exceeds the national educational standards in the UK of a Governing Body of Yoga, the British Wheel of Yoga with its 2 years minimum and 240 contact hours and 500 course hours as well as the Yoga Alliance accumulated seminar and study 500 hour Yoga Teacher levels.

The viniyoga of Yoga is a process to train a student, not a training to process a teacher.

The Practitioner Programme with its minimum of 125 live contact hours over 18 months, combined with the prerequisite 250 hours Personal Studies Modules and 75 hours of individual meetings, totals over 450 live contact hours over around 4-5 years through:

  • 150 live contact hours on prerequisite Study of Yoga and Chant Practice and Theory
  • 100 live contact hours on prerequisite Study of Associated Yoga Texts

Home study hours are not included as they are usually impossible to define, although they are often added to enhance a courses appearance.

For me if included I would suggest also including home practice hours as this is a fine point of study and refection, as well as engaging experientially with the everyday issues you are likely to face with the students you will be working with around the same issues.

The viniyoga of Yoga 121 – Practitioner Programme Assessment and Projects

There will be informal and formal teaching and practice assessments with emphasis on the overall quality of the individual students’ development. The work will be assessed by Paul Harvey or where appropriate faculty support teachers.

  • Continuing assessment of coursework as both theoretical and practical home study is necessary and the student is expected to fulfil it satisfactorily in terms of completion on time and the quality of the work submitted. The home study will include written work each weekend around Yoga theory and practice, Yoga Sūtra study, anatomy and physiology, teaching methodology and counselling skills.
  • All students will be required to be working with individuals by the end of the Programme.
  • Live teaching experience is necessary based on actual teaching experience of 100 hours individual lessons teaching over at least 20 individual case studies of at least 5 hours each or 10 individual case studies of at least 10 hours each. The case files will be supervised with appropriate feedback.

Each group will consist of a maximum of five students.

The Programme will be led by Paul Harvey with specialist tutors supporting where appropriate.

The Workshop aspect of the Programme will comprise 6 four day or 12 two day workshops over 18 months.

Do note that all the Personal Studies and Practitioner Programme workshop fees will include lunch all days and supper for the overnight evenings to help with budget. Thus once you have arrived there is no need to incur any further costs until you leave.

The total budget for the 50 days of prerequisite Personal Studies Modules, through 11 Two Day and 7 Four Day Workshops, will be around £5000 depending on which year you undertake them.

The total budget for the 24 days of Practitioner Programme Modules, through 12 Two Day, or 6 Four Day Workshops for the 2017-2019 course will be around £2500.

A Programme Registration Deposit of £1000 is required as confirmation of acceptance of a place. The Programme deposit will not be refundable but will be offset against the final few workshops fees.

The viniyoga of Yoga 121 – Practitioner Programme Diploma

Students successfully completing the Practitioner Training Programme:

  • Will receive the cYs Yoga Teacher and Yoga Therapeutic Healthcare Practitioner Qualification
  • Plus they will qualify for the BWY National Governing Body Associate Yoga Teacher status
  • Furthermore they will qualify for EUFNY European Teacher Registration
  • As well as qualifying for the CNHC Complementary Practitioner Registration Status.

The viniyoga of Yoga 121 – Practitioner Programme Venue and Accommodation

All the meetings are based at my home in the Cotswolds with a country setting and retreat atmosphere.

Do note that the fees will include lunch and, if staying overnight locally, evening supper to help with costs. Thus, if staying there is no need to incur any further costs until you leave.

The viniyoga of Yoga 121 – Practitioner Programme Application and Process

Applications can be submitted at any time. These can take place during the Personal Studies Modules which are part of the prerequisite criteria. An informal personal meeting is needed.

Successful completion of the prerequisites and meeting will result in an applicant being offered a place on the Practitioner Programme. If applications are not appropriate at this point in time guidance will be offered on possible options.

Some applicants may be asked to undertake further study prior to any final decision regarding acceptance. Because of this and the limited number of places some applicants may be asked to re-apply.
